Forest School is fun. It takes place on a regular basis in a natural (as possible) environment and builds on the children’s knowledge and familiarity of an area. It gives children opportunities to lead their own learning with all planned activities being based on children’s interests. It also helps children to understand and manage risk, develop confidence, self esteem and language skills.
In the autumn term the children showed a particular interest in the many falling leaves. We made a large leaf collage and compared the leaves we found; big and small; round and pointy; green, yellow, brown and red. We also made leaf mobiles. Some frosty mornings also sparked some interest as the children explored the white grass, leaves and branches.
